Location: Troy, MI (Can work Remotely from day 1)

Overview:
As a system safety architect, you will be involved in various and challenging activities with interactions across the product lifecycle such as quotations, concept refinement with the customer, development of the architecture views as well as feature refinement workshops with our internal development teams.  The System Safety Architect will be both responsible and author of safety architecture views that describe how the product implements, refines, and allocates safety requirements to various system elements (logical, electrical, software, and mechanical).
Main Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the system requirements (both safety and non-safety) and regional legal requirements.
  • Create initial design concepts to be reviewed and refined with external customer and internal developers.
  • Define system architecture views to fulfill system requirements, functional safety, security and target costs.
  • Use Rhapsody and SysML methodologies to create system level diagrams to represent the system functionality, such as block diagrams, user diagrams, and activity flow
  • Design the system architecture to be aligned with the existing generic architectures (HW/SW platform)
  • Define internal and external interfaces for each system element.  Identify ASIL allocation to interfaces and elements.  Analyze consistency of ASIL signal flow.
  • Identify the critical use-cases for the system architecture.
  • Decompose the system into sub-systems (platform, modules, components), all the while establishing a bilateral traceability between system requirements and system architectural design.
  • Define the management rules for the hardware resources used by sub-systems (CPU, RAM, Flash memory).
  • Create strategies to achieve performance related requirements, as well as stability and robustness related ones.
  • Support the problem resolution process with in-depth analysis and debugging for root cause identification.
  • Provide technical guidance to all engineering disciplines
  • Work together with System Integration to ensure the whole product performs according to requirements
  • Ensure compliance to processes and methods of the architectural work products created.
  • Provide planning and monitoring of architectural work.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or Equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience in product design and development
  • Demonstratable knowledge of Requirements and Architectural Engineering Tools (e.g. Doors, Rhapsody);
  • Demonstratable knowledge of automotive embedded system design practices and solutions (software and electrical).
  • Demonstratable knowledge of Vehicle communication protocols (e.g. CAN, Ethernet, Flex Ray, LIN);
  • Demonstratable knowledge of ISO 26262.
  • Good writing, reading and speaking English skills;
  • Team player spirit combined with excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to lead design topics and structured problem solving;
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Engineering related field.
  • 8 years of Automotive Engineering experience
  • Experience working in embedded software development
  • 3+ years of experience developing safety requirements, safety concepts, safety analysis or safety software.
  • ASPICE knowledge and experience.
  • Certifications in functional safety, requirements engineering, systems test and/or project management.
  • Experience with failure analysis techniques, such as HARA, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA;
  • Rational DOORs experience
